Andi (27) has come to Fuerteventura to see his estranged father Chris (50), who left the family years ago to live on the island and hasn’t been heard from since. The local surfer clique welcomes Andi with open arms and he quickly falls for surfing instructor Tina (32), forming at the same time a reluctant friendship with a mysterious surfer. But his relationship to his father, whom Andi has never met before, is strained. Soon old wounds start to rip open again and a long-kept family secret threatens to turn Andi’s world upside down.

Director’s Note:
Against the backdrop of Fuerteventura’s fascinating nature and the island’s vibrant surfing scene, OFF SHORE is a moving story about love, family and the conflicts between the generations – with surfing as the central motif that has the power to heal all rifts between the characters.
Ever since wave riding was invented, the international surfing culture has enthralled the world – a dream-like way of life suggesting endless freedom and eternal youth, expressing man’s longing to be in harmony with nature. This is the setting for a soulful story full of breathtaking images, sensitively portrayed characters, a fun soundtrack and some thrilling action on the waves.
Surfing, however, is not just the background before which the plot unfolds – instead, riding the wave is a central part of the film’s story, a narrative element which connects the characters and reconciles them with each other… It’s a spirit of living.
